Puszcza Niepołomice - Lech Poznań 2:0

Lech Poznań will be eager to forget their second match played at Kałuża Street this season. Niels Frederiksen’s squad lost their away clash with Puszcza Niepołomice 0:2 in controversial circumstances.

The match against Puszcza was preceded by two wins for Lech Poznań – against Radomiak Radom (2:1) and Cracovia (2:0) – which put Niels Frederiksen’s team at the top of the PKO BP Ekstraklasa table. If Lech were to win against Puszcza, they’d hold onto the leader’s seat, however, if they lost points in Cracow, the top of the table could flatten.

The opening minutes of the game were dominated by Frederiksen’s squad. However, despite having the ball most of the time, Lech failed to create goal-scoring chances. In the 23rd minute, Michał Gurgul fouled Dawid Abramowicz in an unclear situation and, following VAR analysis, the referee decided to show a controversial red card. As a result of being down by one man, Frederiksen was forced to make a defensive substitution – Antoni Kozubal was replaced by Elias Andersson. The hosts took advantage of the situation and Dawid Szymonowicz converted a corner kick into the opening goal. Shortly before halftime, the score changed again – this time, Bartosz Salamon made a costly defensive mistake which Michail Kosidis exploited and beat Bartosz Mrozek in a one-on-one clash.

The second half looked no different – Lech dominated, whereas Puszcza focused on counterattacks. Nonetheless, Frederiksen’s players visibly struggled to create good scoring chances, hence Kewin Komar didn’t have much work to do and ended up holding onto the clean sheet. As a result of the 2:0 win, Puszcza is no longer ranked at the bottom of the table. Meanwhile, Lech is still occupying the top of the rank, however, Jagiellonia Białystok now has the same number of points as Frederiksen’s squad.
