Lech won their first league point this season. The team from Poznań drew 1:1 with Zagłębie Lubin in an away match and Mikael Ishak scored the only goal for John van den Brom’s squad.
The squad from Poznań faced Zagłębie Lubin following two lost matches in a row – against Wisła Płock (1:3) and Vikingur (0:1). Despite the low morales, Lech managed to stay in possession of the ball for most of the time, however, their domination on the pitch didn’t result in goal-scoring opportunities. On the other end of the pitch, Zagłębie occasionally caused problems for Lech’s defensive line, especially after Filip Starzyński’s crosses. First, Mateusz Bartolewski failed to convert the pass from his teammate into a shot, and then Martin Doleżal’s header that followed Starzyński’s cross into the box was off target.
Meanwhile, Lech tried to break down Zagłębie’s defensive line with offensive attempts led down the right flank, but Gio Tsitaishvili’s and Joel Pereira’s passes failed to reach Mikael Ishak. Afonso Sousa had the best goal-scoring opportunity in the first half when he dribbled past one of Zagłębie’s defenders and came one-on-one with the keeper, but instead of firing a shot, the Portuguese player chose to pass the ball to Ishak. Unfortunately, one of Zagłębie’s players successfully predicted the move and stopped it in time. The hosts could have changed the score before halftime in their favour but Filip Bednarek’s great intervention stopped Kacper Chodyna from placing the ball in the back of the net.
The second half looked very similar to the first part of the match. Both teams struggled to create goal-scoring chances. However, in the 57th minute, Zagłębie found the back of the net – Łukasz Łakomy’s beautiful shot from outside the box left Bednarek helpless. Following the conceded goal, coach van den Brom decided to make three substitutions which turned out to be decisive in the context of the final score. Shortly after appearing on the pitch, Joao Amaral was fouled inside Zagłębie’s box, and the referee awarded Lech with a penalty kick. Ishak converted the set piece into an equalizer. From that moment, Lech tried scoring again with long balls aimed behind Zagłębie’s defensive line. Meanwhile, the hosts were equally determined to beat Bednarek with shots from outside the box, but Lech’s keeper intervened perfectly numerous times. As a result, the match ended in a draw which meant that the two teams had to share points. For Lech, it was the first point of the season.
