On Sunday afternoon, Lech Poznań grabbed three crucial league points. Patrik Walemark’s and Mikael Ishak’s goals enabled the squad to win 2:1 against Motor Lublin in an away match. As a result, Niels Frederiksen and his team managed to hold onto to the second position in the league table.
A week ago, Lech Poznań got back on the winning track and defeated Korona Kielce 2:0. It was an essential triumph since neither Raków Częstochowa nor Jagiellonia Białystok managed to win their matches, therefore Lech minimized the point gap. On Sunday, Niels Frederiksen’s squad had another challenge – an away game against Motor Lublin, who haven’t lost a single home match since October.
Meanwhile, Lech has been struggling with away games this season, even though the first half of the Sunday clash didn’t look like it. The guests dominated their opponent, effortlessly escaped pressing, and created plenty of scoring chances. It didn’t take Frederiksen’s squad long to find the back of the net thanks to Patrik Walemark, his dribbling skills, and a precise, technical shot that left Motor’s keeper helpless. The goal slowed the match's pace; Lech remained in control and effectively stopped Motor from causing too many problems to their defensive line. Shortly before halftime, Daniel Hakans’ speed turned crucial in a counterattack, which Mikael Ishak converted into a second goal for Lech. The Swedish striker is now among Lech’s top 3 all-time best league goal scorers.
The second half was much more balanced, and gradually, Motor started having more to say. The hosts started causing problems for Lech’s defense, and in the 69th minute, they changed the score. Michał Król converted a well-executed corner kick into a goal that posed a real threat to their rival. Motor had two more great scoring chances that could have stolen league points from Lech – first, Kaan Caliskaner’s heel shot stopped on the post, and then, in the added time, Tratnik could have been the hero of the match, but his volley shot was stopped by Mrozek. As a result, Lech went home with all three league points.
