Both Lech Poznań and Zagłębie Lubin had a maximum number of points in their account prior to the Sunday game. In the end, the two sides had to share points as the match ended in a draw, however, the teams held onto their ranks at the top of the table.
Following the Thursday game in the Europa Conference League, John van den Brom made changes in the starting line-up and allowed a few of the key players to rest.
The Sunday game wasn’t an easy one for Lech Poznań. The guests struggled to find a rhythm, resulting in plenty of inaccurate passes. Meanwhile, Zagłębie waited for chances to counterattack. One of their quick offensive attempts ended with Dawid Kurminowski – Lech’s homegrown player – placing the ball in the back of the net.
John van den Brom’s players improved their performance in the second half, but their efforts were only enough to equalize, especially since they were one man down from the 49th minute onwards when Radosław Murawski received a straight red card for a dangerous foul. Miha Blazić – Lech’s recent transfer – scored a header which ended up being worth an important league point for his team. It was the defender’s first goal for Lech.
Despite the draw, Lech held onto the first position in the PKO BP Ekstraklasa table. In the next league match, they will face Jagiellonia Białystok at home, but before they do, John van den Brom and his squad will play against Spartak Trnava in the 3rd qualification round of the Europa Conference League on Thursday.
