Lech Poznań youth players, Jakub Karbownik and Łukasz Szramowski, have been training with the senior team this week. The two upcoming stars have received an invitation to practice alongside their older, more experienced colleagues from the first-team coach, Maciej Skorża. In addition, Jakub Niewiadomski, who has been loaned to GKS Jastrzębie 1962, is also temporarily training with Lech’s senior squad since the youngster is currently in the middle of his high school exams which are taking place in Poznań.
Both Karbownik and Szramowski, have been key players in the offensive line of Lech’s reserves team led by Artur Węski. Both of them are wingers – the first one is positioned on the left flank, whereas Szramowski is usually seen racing up and down the right side of the pitch. For the latter, this position isn’t a natural one as he is used to playing as a central midfielder. Nevertheless, the 19-year-old has been performing impressively on the right flank with two goals and three assists on his account after 10 matches. His older teammate found the back of the net four times and helped his colleagues score twice. In addition, Karbownik has been a part of the team’s starting line-up in all games, apart from the clash with Garbarnia Cracow (0:0).
The two youngsters’ extraordinary performances haven’t gone unnoticed – Maciej Skorża, who watched the last two home games of Lech’s reserves personally, decided he wanted to observe the two players from up close and asked them to join the senior team for a week. The youth players will be practising with the first team until Thursday and then they will rejoin the reserves for the preparations ahead of the home clash with Śląsk II Wrocław.
“I went to two third-division games in Wronki and had an opportunity to chat to coach Artur Węska. I observed the players in the context of their promotion to the first team. It’s a standard procedure at the club – towards the end of the season, the most talented players from the B team are invited to join the training sessions of the senior squad. As a result, I have the chance to observe the players from up close and make a decision in the context of their involvement in the first team’s pre-season and the summer training camp. A handful of young players has been practising with us this week, and a few are going to join the senior squad next week,” explained Lech Poznań coach.
Maciej Skorża has had one additional youth player train under his wing this week – Jakub Niewiadomski. The left-back joined GKS Jastrzębie at the beginning of the spring round but since he is currently passing his high school exams in Poznań, coach Skorża decided to take advantage of his stay in the capital of Greater Poland and invite him to training sessions.
