Wisła Płock - Lech Poznań 0:3

Lech Poznan won the 29th league clash of the season. The team from Poznan beat Wisla Plock 3:0. Robak’s and Majewski’s goals helped Lech add three important points to their account.

The opening part of the match was dominated by the guests from Poznan. In the 5th minute Tralka’s shot from outside the box was blocked at the last moment. A couple of minutes later Robak received a well-timed pass from Gajos and left Byrtek behind. However, before he could fire a shot, the goalkeeper caught the ball. Lech’s control over the play was marked by the goal scored in the 25th minute. Majewski’s cross from a corner kick was extended by Bednarek and redirected into the back of the net by Robak.

6 minutes afterward Majewski dribbled past Stefanczyk and raced into the penalty area, but instead of passing to him teammates who had more place to shoot, he decided to finish the offensive action on his own. The ball rebounded from the keeper and fell by Robak’s feet, but the forward shot was off target. On the other end of the pitch Wisla got a chance to equalize. In the 32nd minute Merebashvili raced towards the center of the pitch and fired a shot, but luckily for Lech Putnocky intervened and stopped his team from conceding a goal.

Before halftime Lech managed to add a second goal to their account and secure the lead. Kownacki was left unmarked on the left flank and crossed the ball into the box where Robak was already waiting and placed it in the net with a header. The referee added a couple of minutes to the first half of the match and gave Lech a chance to score once again. Robak recovered the ball from Stefanczyk, passed to Kownacki and the latter left the ball for Kedziora who’s shot flew above the crossbar.

Shortly after the restart of the game Lech had another scoring opportunity. This time Gajos decided to finish off the offensive action by himself, but his shot was stopped by one of the defenders. A couple of minutes later Majewski found a way to beat Wisla’s goalkeeper. The midfielder received a pass from Kownacki and since he was left unmarked by the defenders, he fired a brilliant shot into the corner of the goal.

The three-goal lead was a secure advantage that allowed Lech to focus on the possession of the ball and the defense. However, the guests needed to remain cautious since they rivals were determined to score a goal. Wisla was awarded a number of set pieces which caused Lech problems to defend. Szyminski was one of the players who could have scored following a set piece, but his attempt was slightly off-target. On the other end of the pitch Robak had a scoring chance as well, but similarly to his opponent, his shot was inaccurate.

Bjelica’s team wanted to add another goal to their tally. Counterattacks were one of Lech’s strengths. In the 78th minute Jevtic’s shot by the post was saved by the keeper. In the 83rd minute Makuszewski decided for an individual run – the dribbled past two defending players, but his attempt was eventually stopped by Wisla’s goalkeeper. Since neither of the teams managed to score in the closing minutes of the game, Lech was the team that collected all three points after the final whistle.
