"We focus on ourselves"

On Friday Lech Poznań will face Piast Gliwice. It will be the first away match for Niels Frederiksen and his players in nearly a month. The last time that Lech played in the opponent’s home ground, they lost 1:2 against Puszcza Niepołomice.

The negative aftermath of the clash with Puszcza is long forgotten; since then, the players from Poznań have bounced back and proved that it was just a hiccup by beating Legia Warsaw 5:2 and GKS Katowice 2:0. Niels Frederiksen and his squad have one more league match to play in the autumn round. For Piast, the recent period hasn’t been successful – the team failed to win any of their last four games. In mid-October, the team from Silesia beat Korona Kielce 2:0, but ever since, they didn’t manage to win three points against Lechia Gdańsk (3:3), Radomiak Radom (1:1), Motor Lubin (2:3), not Górnik Zabrze (0:1).

“Every away match is difficult. We are aware of Piast’s quality. We are hoping that our way of playing will give us a win. For sure, we will give our all to win. I have watched a bit of their last match and I also saw the highlights. Of course, they have their strengths, however, we focus on ourselves and on the fact that we want to win,” said Antonio Milić.

This season, Milić plays one of the key roles in Lech’s defensive line. He and Alex Douglas have regularly formed the centre-back duo. The Swedish defender has become one of the stars in Lech’s squad, however, as a result of an injury, he’ll be unable to play until the end of the autumn round. Bartosz Salamon has replaced Douglas. With the experienced Polish defender in the starting line-up, Lech lost just three goals and kept a clean sheet twice.

“Every player in our squad knows their role, how we play, and fits our tactics. I don’t see much difference between Alex Douglas and Bartosz Salamon playing alongside me. I also don’t feel like a defensive leader. We are all a team; the defensive line is made of four players and everyone is working for the team. At the moment, we are doing a great job,” explained the Croatian defender.
