“Playing in the Europa League group phase has been our dream and we are very happy to have made it come true; however, we are not settling yet. We are here to play good football and win points,” said Lubomir Šatka ahead of Lech’s Europa League clash with Rangers FC.
The centre-back was unable to play in Lech’s recent Europa League group stage match against SL Benfica due to a red card which the defender received in the qualifier against Royal Charleroi. However, Šatka watched the game from the stands, hence he had the chance to see his teammates perform from a different perspective than usual.
“I don’t think that watching the team play from the stands has enabled me to see something that I wouldn’t have seen otherwise. However, what I did notice is something that a lot of people observed – that a Polish club doesn’t have to focus solely on the defence just because they are facing a strong European team; that they can also play offensive football, and this is exactly what we are planning to do,” explained Šatka.
The defender’s absence in Lech’s match against SL Benfica means that the upcoming away clash with Rangers will be an opportunity for Šatka to make his debut in the Europa League group stage. “This game undoubtedly has a positive connotation for me. Playing in Europa League group phase has been our dream; and since we are already here, our objective isn’t just to play against brilliant teams and sightsee beautiful European stadiums, but to also win points and play good football. I am hoping that this is exactly what we will show on Thursday. It’s going to be a very tough game. If you look at Rangers’ results this season, they still remain unbeaten and they have only conceded 3 goals in 12 league games. However, we are analysing them meticulously, looking for weaknesses, and then we will try and use that knowledge on the pitch,” emphasised the defender.
