During the upcoming winter break, Lech Poznan has scheduled a turf and foundation replacement on the main pitch. The start date of the works is dependent primarily on weather conditions, however, the pitch is expected to be replaced in January.
“The decision to replace the turn has been made a while ago, however, we didn’t want to announce it until the last match before the winter break. If it wasn’t for a concert that will be held at the stadium on December 27th and the expected 30-thousand attendance, the turf replacement could have taken place earlier. However, considering this event, the earliest possible start date is beginning of January,” said Lukasz Borowicz, Lech’s Press Officer.
The works scheduled won’t only involve the replacement of the turf, i.e. the most visible layer of the pitch. The foundation beneath the grass will also be replaced in order to facilitate turf management. The majority of the current grass has last been replaced in spring 2016.
The works are planned to begin at the beginning of January. However, the start date is dependent on weather conditions, and not only in Poznan since the decision about the origin of the grass hasn’t been made yet. Low temperatures can influence the possibility to cut the grass and transport it from a plantation.
