Tsitaishvili joins Lech

Tsitaishvili has been playing for Dynamo Kyiv since 2011 – that’s where his football career started. However, as a result of the ongoing war, FIFA implemented new regulations which allowed the winger to join Wisła Cracow on loan for six months, and now he will be competing for Lech.

The Georgian player, who also happens to have Ukrainian citizenship, made 7 appearances for the team from Cracow, scored one goal (against Radomiak), and got two assists. However, since Wisła was relegated, the player decided to return to Dynamo.

“Gio is a player who has already got to know Ekstraklasa and made a name for himself. He is known for his dynamism, good direct clash skills, and a great left foot,” explained Tomasz Rząsa, Lech’s Sporting Director. “He is a player that, despite his young age, is experienced and has also competed for his national team. Now we are awaiting his great performances at Lech,” added Rząsa.

Even though Tsitaishvili is just 21 years old, he has plenty of successes on his account. The young Dynamo player has already won the championship title, national cup, and two super cup trophies. In addition, together with the Ukrainian U-20 team, he won the World Championship in this age category, and in the final against South Korea, he got a goal and set the final score to 3:1.

Despite playing for Ukrainian youth national teams, as a senior, Tsitaishvili decided to represent Georgia. It is because his granddad also dreamt of seeing his grandchild represent their country. Tsitaishvili is regularly called up by Willy Sagnol, Georgia’s national team coach. So far, he has 10 caps.

“I am a winger, but in the national team, I sometimes play as a left-back. When it comes to my style of play, I don’t like to talk about it; I’d rather the fans see it for themselves. What matters the most to me is the team winning and I will give my all for it to happen,” explained Gio. “I am very ambitious. For me, Lech is a top club and now they are about to play in Champions League qualifiers. I would like to help the team win trophies and also improve my list of personal achievements,” added the Georgian winger.

On Thursday, Tsitaishvili came to Poznań and underwent medical tests at the Rehasport clinic. On Friday, he went on to sign a contract with Lech.
