In the Sunday clash with Pogoń Szczecin (1:0), Pedro Tiba got his ninth assist of the season. Does that mean the Portuguese can beat Gergo Lovrencsics’ record from the 2013/2014 campaign when he collected a total of 14 assists?
Pedro Tiba officially has helped his teammates score 8 times so far this season, however, according to Transfermarkt, the Portuguese player has got 9 assists on his account. This difference is a result of varying interpretations as some analysts considering earning the team a penalty kick an assist. Regardless of the interpretations, one thing’s for sure – when it comes to the last passes, the 32-year-old midfielder is by far the best player in Lech’s squad this campaign.
On Sunday, when Pedro Tiba’s perfectly-timed cross reached Bartosz Salamon and the latter scored a header worth 3 league points, the Portuguese midfielder equalled his personal record from a season ago. In this current campaign, Tiba played a key role in 6 PKO Ekstraklasa goals and three Europa League goals (2 group phase attempts and one in the qualifying phase). The coaches often refer to Tiba as the lungs of the team since the Portuguese is responsible for regulating the pace of play. In addition, the midfielder is equally skilled at making a real impact on the squad’s statistics.
We also took a closer look at the players with the most assists in the past season, all the way back to 2010. Back then, Lech had a few brilliant midfielders in the squad, including Semir Štilić and Darko Jevtić. In their best seasons, the two offensive players got 12 and 13 assists respectively. What’s interesting is that the record holder isn’t a midfielder but a winger – Gergo Lovrencsics who played a key role in 14 goals back in the 2013/2014 campaign. The following season, Szymon Pawłowski won the title of the best “assistant” with 12 successful crucial passes. Pedro Tiba still has 10 matches to improve his statistics and take a shot at breaking his personal and the club’s record.
