On Saturday, Lech will face Jagiellonia Bialystok at home. The players from Poznan emphasize that a win in the upcoming league game will let them enjoy a spot in the playoff championship group instead of tracking other teams’ scores.
At 6 pm on Saturday, Lech is going to play against Jagiellonia Bialystok in front of their home crowd. Zuraw’s team still hasn’t secured a place in the championship group for the upcoming playoffs, therefore, they need to win the league clash with Jagiellonia. “We are currently in an uncomfortable situation, however, fortunately, we are still in control and can change that as opposed to relying on the scores of other teams. The aim, for now, is to prepare well for the clash with Jagiellonia, win the game, and prove that we deserve a spot in the top 8,” explain Marcin Wasilewski.
“We know what the situation is like. It wasn’t a secret that the match against Lechia Gdansk wouldn’t be an easy one, therefore we were aware that the last game [before playoffs] could be the crucial one. We need to accept the circumstances and focus on the Saturday match. I am hoping that we will play well because all of us want to compete in the top 8. Currently, this is how high we are aiming, and all other, more ambitious aims have been put aside because they’re not as important as retaining our current position. There’s no need to look at others since we are in control of what happens next,” emphasized Darko Jevtic.
So far, there are 5 teams who have already secured a spot in the championship group – Lechia Gdansk, Legia Warsaw, Piast Gliwice, Cracovia, and Zaglebie Lubin. There are only 3 vacant places left, with 5 sides – Lech, Jagiellonia, Pogon Szczecin, Wisla Cracow, and Korona Kielce – all determined and hopeful to occupy one of them before the playoffs begin. “The team spirit is great, we have been working hard during training sessions and we are determined to win the Saturday game. I don’t even want to discuss the scenario in which we are not in the top 8 because everyone knows very well that it’s not where we belong. The goal is to play good football and prove our value and skills,” highlighted Thomas Rogne.
“The plan is simple – we have to prepare well for the upcoming match and win it. We are playing at home and we need to show what level we are on and where we belong,” added Volodymyr Kostevych.
All games of the 30th league round will begin at the same time, therefore as soon as the clash between Lech and Jagiellonia ends, we will know the playoff ranks ahead of the last 7 games of the 2018/19 season. “The match against Jagiellonia is crucial, however, no matter what happens, we need to remember that it was a very poor season. If we manage to stay in the top 8, we will get the chance to take revenge on the teams that we lost against throughout the season and give some hope ahead of the new season,” summarized Thomas Rogne.
