After 19 rounds of Lotto Ekstraklasa Lech’s defensive line is ranked as the best in the league. The team from Poznan conceded the least goals, similarly to Jagiellonia Bialystok.
In the 19 league clashes this season, Lech’s rivals found the back of the net guarded by Putnocky and Buric only 18 times. In the last 6 matches, Bjelica’s squad let the opponents score only twice. Undoubtedly, this great statistic is all thanks to a remarkable defensive line which has improved since Bjelica became the coach.
"The key to the defense’s good performance is the fact that we always play in the same formation and there are few rotations. That is essential because it helps us concede less goals. We are very happy with the performance of the defenders and we hope that the good series will continue,” said Tomasz Kedziora, Bjelica’s first-choice right-back.
Apart from Kedziora, Tamas Kadar, Jan Bednarek and Paulus Arajuuri have started the games regularly this season. The last played his final game on INEA Stadium during the weekend. “We are sad Paulus is leaving, he was a strong, important element of our defense. We have to wait and see how it will all function without Paulus. There are great players who can replace him, among them Lasse Nielsen and Maciej Wilusz,” explained Kedziora.
In addition, Lech is the best Polish team when it comes to keeping a clean sheet at home. The team from Poznan conceded only 7 goals when performing in front of its fans, on INEA Stadium. There is no other club that matches Lech’s achievement.
