"That’s the way it should be"

Thomas Rogne’s goal against Podbeskidzie Bielsko-Biała was Lech’s first successful direct attempt from a corner kick in the current league season. Both the goalscorer and Alan Czerwiński who assisted the Norwegian are hoping that they can keep on improving this particular element of the game. “Alan’s crosses are incredible, always of the right strength and incredibly precise. This makes it so much easier for those of us who are positioned in the box. That’s exactly the way it should be,” explained Lech’s captain.

30 minutes into the match, Czerwiński approached the corner of the pitch with an aim to execute the set piece. The right back, who has been tasked with corner kicks for 4 years already, sent a strong and precise cross into the box where Thomas Rogne was positioned. The latter scored his third goal for the team from Poznań whilst coach Żuraw finally found the right player to appoint to execute this particular type of set pieces. The former Zagłębie Lubin defender who joined Lech in the summer transfer window has proved that his passes are of great quality.

“I am skilled at converting a standing ball into crosses and I wanted to show that. I am glad that it has been recognised and I will do my best to ensure that we score as many goals from corner kicks as possible. I am sure that we will get plenty of those,” ensured Czerwiński and added that he felt confident and positive practising corner kicks over the last few weeks. “Passes from a standing ball differ from those when the ball is in motion but we do have a few players that are capable of converting a cross into a good header. All you have to do is set them up with a strong and precise pass and they will make the right run for it. Thomas’s skills in the air are impressive,” highlighted the 27-year-old.

It’s no surprise that Thomas Rogne also expressed his happiness after the match since it was his first goal for Lech scored at home. The defender regretted that it didn’t happen in front of the crowd of supporters. At the same time, he emphasised that Czerwiński’s assist was perfect. “It was an important moment of the game. Prior to that, we struggled a bit with creating good scoring chances but the goal was a turning point. Looking at Alan’s cross, I am very glad he was tasked with corner kicks,” said the Norwegian with a smile on his face.

“His crosses are incredible, always of the right strength and incredibly precise. This makes it so much easier for those of us who are positioned in the box. You find yourself in the penalty area and the ball is right there, where you want it to be – it’s a great feeling and it’s exactly the way it should be,” emphasised Rogne.

Both players are hoping that ser pieces will continue to bring more desirable effects in the upcoming weeks. After all, last season Lech was barely ranked in mid-table when it came to goals scored from corner kicks. This campaign, so far the squad from Poznań managed to surprise the opponents’ goalkeepers with corner kicks twice. Jakub Moder was the first one to do so against Piast in an away clash. However, Rogne’s goal against Podbeskidzie was Lech’s first successful direct attempt from a free kick.
