Filip Szymczak reached an agreement with Lech Poznań to extend the striker’s contract until 2025. “Filip has proved, time and again, that he is capable of professional development. We see him improve as a player and we are hoping that within the next few years, he will become a key figure in the first team,” explained Tomasz Rząsa, Lech’s Sporting Director.
Back in 2013, Filip Szymczak joined Lech Poznań Academy from Warta Poznań. Since then, he has been making his way up the ladder whilst winning important trophies in various age categories, including U-17 and U-19 championship title and promotion to third division with the reserves. At the end of the 2018/19 season, Dariusz Żuraw decided to make the striker a first-team player. Since the promotion, Szymczak appeared in 19 matches. At the beginning of the most recent campaign, the youngster scored his debut goals in Polish Cup and Europa League qualifiers.
In the following months, Szymczak struggled with an injury. In spring, he finally started regularly competing for the senior and the reserves teams. The striker played a key role in Lech’s ‘B team’ success, i.e. avoiding relegation from eWinner 2. Liga, by scoring four important goals. New challenges are awaiting the young star who emphasises that he wants to stay at the club from Poznań. “Lech is my club, hence I didn’t need time to decide that here is where I want to keep on developing as a player. I have personal objectives that I want to achieve at Lech. However, in order to do that, I need to avoid injuries. I am doing my best to strengthen my body and I am hoping that I will be lucky enough to stay fit to play,” explained Lech’s homegrown player.
“Filip has proved, time and again, that he is capable of professional development. He played great at the start of the last season and in spring, following his recovery from an injury, he made a big difference in the reserves. We see him improve as a player day in day out and we are hoping that within the next few years, he will become a key figure in the first team,” highlighted Tomasz Rząsa.
Szymczak’s new contract will last until the end of June 2025.
