SL Benfica – Lech Poznań 4:0

Lech’s footballers won’t have good memories about their visit to the legendary Estadio da Luz. The Polish club was beaten 0:4 by SL Benfica in the 5th round of Europa League group stage.

Lech flew to Lisbon without a few key players, including Pedro Tiba who suffered an injury and Djordje Crnomarković who was out for cards. In addition, the starting line-up of the Polish club lacked a couple of names that the fans got used to as Żuraw decided to rest the most exploited players and send in those that haven’t spent too much time on the pitch so far this season.

Meanwhile, Benfica decided to go with their first-choice line-up. Nonetheless, for a long while, Lech managed to keep the game balanced and didn’t give in to the seemingly stronger opponent. Benfica did turn out to be more effective in the rival’s penalty area and Vertonghen converted a corner kick into a goal a few minutes before halftime.

In the second part of the match, the hosts took total control of the game and gradually dominated the rival. Every time Lech made a mistake, SL Benfica was there to make the most out of it and soon the score reflected the situation on the pitch. In the 57th minute, within just 60 seconds, the team from Poznań conceded two goals, and then just before the final whistle, Weigl set the final score to 4:0 with a shot from outside the box.
