Lech’s midfielder Michał Skóraś has once again been given a spot in the starting line-up of the Polish U-21 national team. His clubmate Filip Marchiwński also appeared on the pitch in the clash with Israel which the Polish side lost 1:2.
In the U-21 European Championship qualifiers, those teams which manage to win their groups will advance directly to the group stage of the tournament. Meanwhile, those who are ranked second in the group table will compete in the playoffs. In Poland’s group, Germany is the indisputable favourite as they have, so far, won all their games. Similarly, Israel also triumphed in the clash against Hungary and the recent match against Poland, which puts them in the second position. Meanwhile, Maciej Stolarczyk’s team has only three points on their account, the same as Hungary. Latvia and San Marino are ranked at the bottom as neither of the teams has managed to win nor draw in the qualifiers.
The Polish national team began the international break with a 2:0 win against Latvia. Michał Skóraś not only appeared in the starting line-up but also scored a goal against the Latvians. In the clash with Israel, the midfielder also played from the beginning. In the first half, Skóraś came close to getting an assist but his teammate lost a one-on-one clash with the Israeli keeper. Nevertheless, Poland managed to score in the first half thanks to a goal from Kacper Smoliński. Israel equalized before halftime, and shortly after the break, they got another goal which ended up setting the final score.
The Poles were determined to win points and in the 81st minute and Lech’s forward Filip Marchwiński appeared on the pitch to help in the offence. He came close to getting an assist, but one of his teammates ended up hitting the crossbar. Meanwhile, Filip Szymczak who is currently on loan at GKS Katowice watched the game from the bench.
Stolarczyk’s team will play their next qualifying game in October – against Hungary away, and against San Marino at home.
