Mario Situm signed a contract with Lech Poznan. The Croatian midfielder will spend the next season on loan in Poznan. The contract also includes a buyout clause.
“He [Situm] is a very dynamic player and one of his biggest assets is creativity. He controls the ball well and has great technical skills. He is, after all, a homegrown player of Dinamo Zagreb. We know that the club has great training system. When Zagreb brings its 10-year-olds to Lech Cup, you can already see how well they play,” explained Karol Klimczak, Lech’s chairman.
“The coach knows Croatian football and has already worked with Situm before. “The coach knows the player from when he managed a Serie B team. We have all discussed the transfer and Bjelica’s opinion has been similar to what we observed in the past couple of years. The coach wanted Situm to join his team,” emphasised the chairman.
The 25-year-old already has 197 caps on his account. His career began in Dinamo Zagreb and he was later sent on loan to Lokomotiv Zagreb and Spezia Calcio where he met Nenad Bjelica. The midfielder also played in the group phase of Champions League.
In the recent season, Situm competed for his childhood club with which he won the vice-championship of Croatia. In the 31 matches he played in, the midfielder scored once and assisted twice. Situm’s good disposition was recognized by Croatian national coach and in January 2017 the footballer debuted for the senior team. Before that, Situm regularly competed for Croatian youth national teams.
The midfielder expressed his happiness with the transfer and said that he can’t wait to play for Lech. “I am proud to have become a part of this team. I believe it is a great step in my career. I already know quite a lot about Lech. I am happy to be here. On Monday we begin the week-long preparatory camp. I can’t wait to train with the rest of the team,” said the new transfer.
Situm is Lech’s 4th transfer this summer. Emir Dilaver was the first one to join the team from Poznan, Vernon De Marco followed shortly afterward and in the meantime, Lech also announced the buyout of Maciej Makuszewski from Lechia Gdansk.
