The General is staying at Lech Poznań. Bartosz Salamon, who has earned the nickname among fans, extended his contract with Lech. The new deal will last until June 30th, 2026 with the option of extension for another 12 months.
Salamon is a Lech homegrown player. He joined the team from Poznań from Concordia Murowana Goślina. At 16, he moved to Italy where he played for the next 14 years. In the season 2020/2021 he returned to Lech and went on to win a Championship title in 2022. Since Salamon has been back in Poznań, he appeared in 63 league games and scored 4 goals.
“After two successful seasons when we won the Polish Championship and played in the quarterfinals of the Europa Conference League, we were forced to swallow a bitter pill. The season which has just ended was an unsuccessful one – we didn’t achieve the objectives we set for ourselves. Therefore, changes are necessary both in the coaching staff and the team. Some players are leaving, but we also want to keep the leaders, and Bartosz Salamon is one of them. Hence, the contract extension. The new deal is a two-year agreement with the option of extension for another 12 months,” explained Tomasz Rząsa, Lech’s Sporting Director. “Bartek is from Poznań and he has the club in his heart. He returned to the squad in December after a few months-long break and upon Mikael Ishak’s absence, he became the captain, therefore he is one of the most important figures in the dressing room. We want to build the team for the next season around Salamon and a couple of other players. Bartek has been one of our defensive leaders,” added Rząsa.
While representing Lech Poznań, the 33-year-old returned to the Polish National Team. The defender received a call-up for the March playoff clash with Wales which ended up with Poland qualifying for Euro 2024.
“I am very happy. It’s a special moment for me considering what the past three years have looked like. These past 6 months, after my return, my task was to prove that I am a good footballer and am still capable of giving a lot to the team. My goal was to stay for the foreseeing years and help the club. Now more than ever, knowing where we are. This season hasn’t ended well for us hence, personally, I am even more motivated to help the team get back on the right track in the next campaign,” said Bartosz Salamon.
The defender also summarised the past 3,5 years spent in Poznań. “There were plenty of ups and a few downs. Upon my arrival, the key objective was to win the Championship title for the club’s 100th anniversary. That’s exactly what happened and I received the award for the best defender of the season. Then we went on an amazing adventure in the European arena which is always one of the club’s objectives. Of course, we ought to have achieved more in this time. But the motivation is even higher because you know how Poznań celebrates. We want to repeat it, win more often. For now, we need leave behind the last season and forget about it. Every person who has given their all needs to give even more now. From the very start of the preseason, we need to fully believe in our success.”
