After the scoreless draw against Cracovia, Lech Poznań travelled to Chorzów to face the local team Ruch. The hosts are desperately trying to avoid the relegation, hence they needed a win on Friday to keep up the hopes of staying in the top division next season.
Górnik Zabrze’s 5:0 loss in the clash with Cracovia meant that Lech had an opportunity to increase their lead over Jan Urban’s squad and also catch up to the current PKO BP Ekstraklasa leaders – Jagiellonia Białystok. However, in order to do that, they needed to defeat Ruch Chorzów – who are close to relegation – and that turned out to be a challenge. The hosts found the back of the net first, thanks to a tap-in from Daniel Szczepan. But it didn’t take Lech long to equalize – just a few minutes later, Jesper Karlstrom was fouled inside Ruch’s penalty area and Mikael Ishak converted the set piece into an equalizer.
In the second half, both teams visibly struggled to create goal-scoring opportunities. Afonso Sousa tried surprising Ruch’s keeper with a shot from outside the box, Kristoffer Velde attempted a header, but neither ended up scoring. Gradually, Ruch gained control of the match. Bartosz Mrozek managed to stop Soma Novothny’s shot but he was helpless when Michał Feliks tried to surprise the keeper. As a result, Ruch Chorzów won 2:1 and added three league points to their account.
