Despite another good performance on the international arena, Lech Poznań still hasn’t won a single point in the group phase of Europa League. On Thursday, the team from Poznań was beaten by Rangers FC 0:1 in an away game.
Alongside the Portuguese SL Benfica, the side from Glasgow led by Steven Gerrard is a favourite to qualify for the next phase of Europa League. Therefore, the players from Poznań already knew it wasn’t going to be an easy game.
And that’s exactly what happened. Since the first whistle, Rangers pressed hard on Lech. The Polish side defended bravely and even managed to counterattack occasionally, causing trouble to the hosts. Jakub Moder’s shot from outside the box nearly flew past McGregor and into the net.
There were periods when the Scottish club dominated their opponent, however, Lech did manage to remain in possession of the ball for longer chunks of time which only further proved the team’s potential.
Unluckily for the Poles, the only goal of the match belonged to the hosts. Alfredo Morelos who came in from the bench perfectly converted a well-timed cross from Borna Barišić into a precise shot that left Filip Bednarek helpless. As a result, it was the Scotts who collected all three points.
