Lech Poznan beat Poland U-21 in a sparring match during national team break. Lukasz Tralka scored the only goal of the match. In a week’s time, on September 10th, Lech will face Pogon in a league clash.
Bjelica made a couple of rotations in the squad ahead of the match against the youth Polish national team. Jasmin Buric replaced Putnocky in the goal, while Wasilewski and Vernon de Marco were put in the defensive line. Interestingly, there were a few Lech’s players in the opposite team too. Pawel Tomczyk made it to the starting line-up, while Robert Gumny and Kamil Jozwiak appeared on the pitch in the second half.
Lech created its first scoring chance early in the 4th minute when Situm raced down the flank and Kostevych crossed the ball into the box. However, the Ukrainian’s pass was successfully blocked by the Polish defenders and Lech was awarded a corner kick. Shortly afterward the same two players built another offensive action. This time Kostevych’s cross entered the box, but Nicki Bille failed to intercept the strong pass. Barkroth was there to finish off the action, but his shot stopped on the crossbar.
In the 21st minute Michniewicz’s players had a good chance to score. Kopacz entered Lech’s box, dribbled around two defenders and fired a shot, but it was blocked at the last moment. 4 minutes later Lech attacked again. Barkroth was fouled on the right flank before he could cross the ball into the box and his team was awarded a free kick. Radut converted it into an accurate shot, but it was easily saved by the goalkeeper.
Bjelica’s players were in possession of the ball for the majority of the time. The second half began with a dangerous shot from Tralka, but the Polish goalkeeper managed to save the attempt. The midfielder’s second shot was slightly off target. However, in the 61st minute Lech finally managed to score. Gajos crossed the ball into the box where Tralka was waiting and redirected the ball into the net with a header. The Polish side had an opportunity to equalize a couple of minutes later, but Kondrad Michalak’s shot hit the side net. Lech had a few scoring chances as well, some of them coming from set pieces, but the Polish youngsters defended their goal well and the match ended with a 1:0 win for Lech.
