Lech drew in the 18th league match of the season. Neither the team from Poznan, nor Piast Gliwice managed to score a goal on Sunday afternoon. Bjelica’s team is, therefore, currently sit 5th in the league.
The opening minutes of the first half were marked by Lech’s frequent offensive actions. In the 5th minute Jevtic’s individual run starting from Lech’s penalty box finished with a deflected shot that was stopped by Piast’s keeper. Formalik’s players wanted to respond, but found it hard to get close to Lech’s goal.
After about 15 minutes Piast got their first scoring chance. Vranjes converted a free kick into a shot from the 20th meter, but the attempt was easily stopped by Buric. Shortly afterwards the referee awarded Lech with a penalty kick following after he saw one of Piast’s players touch the ball with his hand, however, after seeing a replay, the referee took back his decision.
Lech seemed in control of the match, frequently visiting their rival’s penalty box. However, the team from Poznan struggled to beat Piast’s defensive line. In the 38th minute Jevtic’s great shot from outside the ball was saved by the goalkeeper. In the last offensive action of the first half, Makuszewski hit the crossbar.
In the opening minutes of the second half, both teams fought to take control of the game. It was Lech that remained in possession of the ball for the majority of the time, but Piast was dangerous with its counterattacks. An hour into the match, Gajos was fouled in the box, but since the referee did not whistle a penalty kick, Bjelica started protesting by the sidelines. The coach’s reaction forced the referee to send him to the stands.
Shortly afterward, Lech came very close to scoring after Jevtic fired a strong shot at Piast’s goal, however, to everyone’s surprise, the ball flew a couple of centimeters next to the goal. For long periods neither of the team’s managed to build scoring chances, even from set pieces.
In the injury time, Lech came close to scoring once more. This time it was Rakels’ header that landed on Piast’s crossbar. The score didn’t change even in the closing minutes of the match, therefore, the two teams had to share points.
