During the Sunday league clash with Legia Warsaw, Joel Pereira scored the only goal for Lech. In the 83rd minute, the Portuguese defender changed the score to 1:2 with a beautiful, technical shot from outside the box that was impossible for Kacper Tobiasz to save. However, the impressive goal didn’t win Lech any points.
Prior to joining the team from Poznań, Joel Pereira hadn’t scored a single goal in senior football. He found the back of the net for the first time in the fourth qualifying round of the Europa Conference League, against Dudelange (1:1). The 27-year-old beat Lucas Fox with a strong shot under the crossbar – a crucial goal that helped Lech qualify for the group stage. “I am very happy. I helped the team and together we advanced to the group phase of the Europa Conference League. It was my first official goal; previously, I only scored in friendly games. However, to me, assists are like goals, so I am happy,” emphasized the Portuguese player.
Pereira had to wait nearly 18 months for another goal – he found the back of the net for the second time in the autumn round of this season, against Radomiak Radom (2:2). The mentioned clash was one of his best performances – not only did Pereira score, but he also got an assist. The Portuguese player added his name to the goal scorers’ sheet for the third time this past weekend when he beat Kacper Tobiasz with an outstanding shot from outside the box. As a result of the recent goal, Pereira is Lech’s best defender of the current league season in terms of goals scored. However, if we also consider European competition, he and Antonio Milić both found the back of the net twice. The Croatian player was one of the goal scorers in the matches against Zalgiris Kaunas (3:1) and Puszcza Niepołomice (4:1).
