On July 1st, Radosław Murawski will officially become a Lech Poznań player. The 26-year-old midfielder signed a 3-year contract that is going to expire on June 30th, 2024.
The agreement about the transfer has already been reached a while ago. The player himself even visited his new teammates during Lech’s training camp in Belek. He didn’t have to travel far as he is currently competing for the Süper Lig side Denizlispor. Murawski’s contract with the Turkish club is going to expire on June 30th this year. During Lech’s training camp in Belek, the midfielder passed his medical tests and he signed a contract with the Polish club until June 30th, 2024.
However, he won’t join his new squad until July 1st.
“Unfortunately, it wasn’t possible for me to join Lech during this winter as I still have one more important mission to complete at Denizlispor – to help the club avoid relegation. I was told upfront that there was no way I was going to leave in the winter transfer window, even if there was an offer because I am a key player and they need me in order to avoid relegation. Therefore, I will stay in Turkey until summer and help my current squad but on July 1st, a new chapter will begin for me and I am looking forward to achieving successes with Lech Poznań,” said Radosław Murawski.
The 26-year-old midfielder is the homegrown player of Piast Gliwice where he trained and competed starting from junior teams all the way to the senior squad. He debuted in Piast’s A team on December 8th 2012 in a league clash with GKS Bełchatów (3:1). He appeared on Ekstraklasa pitches 125 times and then, at the age of 23, moved to Italy. Murawski joined Palermo where he quickly won a spot in the starting line-up. In the Serie B, during his first season in Italy, he collected 35 appearances and even got to compete in playoffs four times. Then, in the following campaign, he played in 32 games. Since the Italian club encountered significant problems, the midfielder moved to Denizlispor where he spent the past 1,5 years. During the 2019/20 season, he played in 32 games and got the most minutes out of all footballers in the squad. Murawski has won himself a spot in the starting XI but now his Turkish club is facing relegation.
As a result, it was impossible for the midfielder to join Lech in winter since Denizlispor aren’t interested in any transfer considering what’s at stake for them this season.
“We have tried to make a deal with Denizlispor but unfortunately, we couldn’t make it happen, therefore Radosław is going to join us in summer,” explained Tomasz Rząsa, Lech’s Sporting Director. “Whenever we are looking for a new player to join our team, we first search for Polish footballers that fit the profile. We wanted to bring a midfielder and Radek was our first choice, hence we are happy that he is going to join us. Despite being 27, he already has a lot of experience that he gained in Italy and Turkey. He played a key role in both of these clubs and got himself a spot in the starting line-up. We are hoping that aside from his football skills, he is also going to add quality leadership to our team,” added Rząsa.
After 4 years abroad, Murawski is returning to Poland. “We made another important life decision together with my wife. We were ready to return home. When Lech offered me a contract, we didn’t have to think about it for long,” said the midfielder. Why Lech? “The truth is that Lech is a top team and no one needs to be reminded of the club’s values and strengths as it’s common knowledge. Often when speaking to foreign players, I ask which Polish clubs do they know and Lech is one of the most recognisable Polish sides on the international arena. Back when I was a kid, I followed Lech and was a fan, especially since a lot of brilliant players competed for the club from Poznań. Every young Pole dreams of playing for a team like Lech,” highlighted Murawski.
