ŁKS Łódź - Lech Poznań 0:1

Lech Poznan beat LKS Lodz in the extra time of the first round of Polish Cup and advanced to next phase of the competition. Joao Amaral scored the only goal of the match.

Djurdjevic’s players were the first ones to attack. Tiba’s well-timed and precise pass put Amaral in a perfect opportunity to shoot, but the Portuguese’s attempt was off target. The hosts responded with a quick offensive action that put Kujawa one-on-one with Putnocky, however, the goalkeeper won the clash. 20 minutes into the game, Cywka went for an individual run and he finished it off with a great pass to Gytkjaer, but the Dane was slower than one of the defenders. The striker’s attempt from a couple of minutes later was successfully stopped by the keeper.

The next dangerous attempt came from Tiba, but his shot was blocked by one of the defenders and the goalkeeper caught the ball effortlessly. A couple of minutes later, Widelko decided to shoot from outside the box, however, he was slightly imprecise. Amaral and Tiba were both very active on the other end of the pitch, but Lodz’s goalkeeper had a number of good saves. Similarly, Jozwiak’s attempt from before halftime was stopped by the keeper.

The opening minutes of the second half were balanced and most of the play took place in the midfield, until around the 60th minute, the team from Poznan started dominating the game. Jozwiak lost a one-on-one clash with the keeper and Tiba’s attempt was off target. Similarly, Lodz failed to convert a set piece into a goal.

20 minutes before the final whistle, Cywka decided to shoot from an acute angle – an attempt that the goalkeeper found easy to stop. A few minutes later, the hosts managed to place the ball in the net following a set piece, but the referee correctly spotted an offside. LKS Lodz seemed determined to score once more but they lacked precision. In the injury time of the second half, Amaral could have scored a winner for the team from Poznan, but he failed to beat the keeper one-on-one. Therefore, the match was extended to extra time.

The next 30 minutes were full of Lech’s offensive attacks which lacked precision. Radut’s shot from a free kick was off target, whilst Amaral’s attempt was successfully stopped by the keeper, and Gytkjaer header flew above the goal.

In the second half of extra time, Putnocky was forced to intervene when Radionov surprised him with a strong shot. 5 minutes before the final whistle, Gytkjaer caused problems to Lodz’s keeper but he failed to place the ball in the net. Meanwhile, Radut’s attempt was successfully blocked by the hosts. Shortly afterward, Amaral scored the winner following a rebound and helped Lech secure a spot in the next phase of the Polish Cup.
