After 10 years spent at Lech Poznań, Karol Linetty left the club from Poznań. The 21 year-old midfielder has become Sampdoria's newest footballer. On Friday the player signed a 5-year deal with the Serie A football club.
Due to the negotiations that were still in progress, Linetty did not take part in the match against Zagłębie Lubin. On Monday and on Tuesday the player trained with the rest of the team from Poznań, but on Wednesday the midfielder flew to Italy where he was about to go through medical check-ups the day later.
"We are proud that our homegrown player has been noticed and appreciated by so many great European clubs. Karol is a professional in every aspect and he is perfectly aware of where he is now and how he wants his career to develop in the upcoming years. U.C. Sampdoria trusted Karol and offered him a long deal," said Piotr Rutkowski, Lech's vice-chairman.
Linetty became Lech's player in 2006. For the next 6 years he was a part of the youth teams and in October 2012 he debuted in the senior team. A month later he appeared in his first Ekstraklasa league match. Linetty scored 11 goals in 112 matches.
"Karol is an extraordinary example for his yonger teammates from Lech's Academy. Great training, joined the first team, got experience playing in Poland, on the international arena and in the National Team and now he is about to take another big step in his career. We want to thank him and wish him a lot of luck. We are going to keep our fingers crossed!" Said Rutkowski.
Last season Sampdoria was placed 15th in Serie A, having collected 40 points in 38 games. Marco Giampaolo, Empoli's former coach, is now going to lead U.C. Sampdoria.
