On Wednesday, the winger Kristoffer Velde signed a contract with Lech Poznań. The 22-year-old, who has represented FK Haugesund until recently, has reached an agreement on a 4-year deal with the Polish club.
On Monday, the club from Poznań announced the transfer of their homegrown player, Jakub Kamiński, to VfL Wolfsburg. As a result, Lech was forced to secure the position in the context of the winger’s departure in the summer. Coach Skorża when asked about having to replace Kamiński, said, “I’d like a new winger to join us as soon as possible. We have challenging months ahead of us, filled with important games. Hence, the player would have time to adjust and get to know Ekstraklasa from the inside. Therefore, it’s best that we finalise the transfer as quickly as possible.”
Two days later the club announced the new signing – a winger called Kristoffer Velde – who flew to Poznań on Wednesday and signed a four-year contract with Lech Poznań (until December 12th, 2025) after successfully passing medical tests.
“Kristoffer is joining us from FK Haugesund where he has played throughout all his career, until now. He is a young but very talented player who will strengthen our wing. We are counting on his skills and talent, and we are looking froward to Kristoffer becoming a natural successor of Jakub Kamiński. Of course, throughout the upcoming spring round, he will fight for a spot in the starting line-up with all remaining wingers,” explained Lech’s Sporting Director, Tomasz Rząsa.
Velde is a 22-year-old homegrown player of FK Haugesund – an Eliteserien side that competed against Lech in Europa League qualifiers 4 years ago. The Norwegian talent has a total of 119 caps for Haugesund, as well as 27 goals and 24 assists on his account. The previous campaign has a very successful one for Velde who got 7 goals and 11 key passes in 29 games. “Our new player feels great in one-on-one clashes. He is versatile and knows how to score with both feet, as well as how to set up his teammates with goal-scoring opportunities,” emphasised Rząsa.
Lech’s new signing was seen at Bułgarska in December, during the home clash with Górnik Zabrze (2:1).
“The fans here are passionate, which I love. I haven’t had the chance to play for them yet but I watched a league game from the stands and the atmosphere was brilliant. I can’t wait to perform in front of this crowd,” highlighted Velde whose statistics make him one of the best dribblers in the Norwegian top division. “I am a creative player who loves to dribble and enjoys direct, one-on-one clashes. I actually had no idea that I am one of the best league players when it comes to dribbling. I have enjoyed it a lot since I was a kid. It’s an important part of the game to me, hence I am always looking for opportunities to dribble. I know a few players who used to compete in Lech, and I have made a bit of research prior to my decision. In addition, I spoke to the people at Lech and all of it convinced me to join the Polish club,” explained Lech’s new winger.
On Thursday Velde will travel to Turkey where he will meet his new teammates.
