The Polish Champions have finalized their fourth transfer of the summer. On Tuesday, the Swedish defender Filip Dagerstål signed a one-year contract with Lech Poznań.
The player flew into Poznań on Sunday evening and on the following day, he underwent medical tests as well as got a chance to sightsee the stadium. All the formalities of the transfer were finalized on Tuesday morning and that’s when Dagerstål officially became a Lech Poznań player. “Filip has joined our team on a one-year loan from the Russian club FK Chimki Moscow. We are hoping that he will be a key reinforcement of our defensive line,” explained Lech’s Sporting Director, Tomasz Rząsa. What’s important is that all undertaken actions are in accordance with the regulations introduced by FIFA on the possible suspension until June 30, 2023, of the existing contracts of foreign players related to Russian and Ukrainian clubs. This is obviously related to the hostilities undertaken by Russia.
Lech’s new defender is a homegrown player of IFK Norrköping – one of the most titled Swedish clubs. Dagerstål debuted in the senior team in 2014 and in the following season, as an 18-year-old, he helped his team win the Swedish Championship title. At the end of 2020, he already had over 130 top-division appearances on his account and decided to take another step in his career. As a result, Dagerstål joined FK Chimki Moscow and since then, he played in 27 games for the Russian club. In February, he returned to IFK for a few months.
“Filip is a player that we all know very well. He fits the profile of our central midfielder. He is good with his feet and has good playmaking skills. In addition, he is also great in the air, is decisive and intelligent on the pitch, and knows how to position himself,” emphasized Rząsa.
In addition, Dagerstål has two caps on his account – both in friendly matches, against Slovakia (6:0) and Iceland (2:2). The last time he played for the Swedish national team was over 3.5 years ago. Here at Lech, Dagerstål chose the numer 25.
“I know that Lech is an amazing and big club. I spoke briefly to Jesper [Karlström] and he had only good things to say about Lech. I also saw a few photos and video clips of the fans and the atmosphere during games, and you can immediately see how brilliant this club is. It’s wonderful to be here. Of course, it’s a bit easier if you can speak in your native language to someone at the club, but I also find it important not to limit yourself to a specific group of teammates but rather integrate with everyone. From what I have heard, the atmosphere in the team is amazing and everyone likes to spend time together,” said Filip Dagerstål. “Following last season’s Championship title, I think that we should aim for the same in this campaign. Whereas when it comes to the international arena, we have to do everything we can to play in the Europa Conference League group phase,” added the Swede.
“Shortly after signing the contract on Tuesday morning, Dagerstål showed up to Lech’s training session. He will also travel to Georgia together with the team for the second leg of the clash with Batumi. However, he won’t be able to debut yet since he hasn’t been registered, but Dagerstål will have a chance to get to know his new teammates and train alongside them. The earliest that the Swede will get an opportunity to debut is on Sunday, against Wisła Plock. “What’s important is that Filip won’t have a lot of catching up to do since he spent the last few months at the home club, IFK Norrköping, where he trained and played regularly. He is ready and we are counting on him,” highlighted Rząsa.
