Lech Poznań wins the Enea Lech Cup

Lech Poznań won the 16th edition of the Enea Lech Cup! Throughout the weekend, 8 different U-12 teams played a total of 44 games, and in the grand finale the hosts beat Sporting CP 4:2. It’s Lech’s second Lech Cup triumph.

After an exhilarating Saturday in the UAM Hall, came the second day of the Enea Lech Cup which looked different than the first part of the tournament. Based on the Saturday results, the teams were divided into two groups: Champions League and Europa League. With every match, the stakes became higher as the 8 teams fought for placements and ultimately, the trophy.

Both groups fought incredibly, delivering thrilling emotions to the spectators. In the Champions League, for a long time, it seemed that Chelsea – who performed impressively that weekend – would end up in the final. After drawing against KRC Genk (3:3) in the first Sunday game, the English side demolished Sporting CP 6:0, hence they only needed a tie in the last match, against Lech, to advance to the final. Meanwhile, the hosts had a single point in their account and needed to beat “The Blues” to have a shot at the trophy. Mikołaj Patek’s squad showed their potential and ended up winning against the English side 3:1.

Meanwhile, Inter Milan, after a rather unsuccessful Saturday, triumphed in the Europa League, scoring all points. Swedish Djurgardens ended up in the 7th place after defeating Slavia Prague 4:2. Practically every one of the Europa League games was a true spectacle. Inter Milan’s clash with RB Leipzig for the 5th place was an exhilarating match that went on to penalty kicks, which the Italian team ended up winning.

Chelsea showed off their skills in the match for the 3rd place, in which they faced KRC Genk. The Belgian team lost 2:3, but they put up a real fight in the last few minutes of the game. After Lech’s two losses against Sporting (one on Saturday, one on Sunday), the fans gathered in the UAM Hall for the Champions League final hoping that the saying “third time's a charm” would come true… and it did. Despite conceding a goal early on, Lech’s U-12 squad replied with four goals of their own and won the Enea Lech Cup for the second time in the history of the tournament, and for the first time in 6 years.

All the teams that participated in the tournament deserve sincere congratulations. Each player and staff member played a key role in making the 16th edition of the Enea Lech Cup exhilarating! We are looking forward to next year’s edition.
