Lech Poznan finished the main phase of the season with a 3:0 against Ruch Chorzow. The result helped Lech secure the third rank in the league table ahead of the final stage of the season.
The match began with a good scoring chance for Ruch. In the 4th minute Nowak sent the ball flying above the defenders’ heads and to Niezgoda who finished the action with a shot that flew over the crossbar. Lech was more effective and 3 minutes later they converted a scoring chance into a goal. Kedziora cross from a corner kick was redirected into the net by Surma who’s own goal helped Lech take the lead.
Lech was in possession of the ball for the majority of the time and once in a while they caused a bit of problems to Ruch’s defenders. In the 20th minute Robak raced down the left flank and crossed the ball to Gajos. However, the midfielder’s shot was stopped by the goalkeeper. Hrdlicka was busy that Saturday night, but he made no errors and he defended Ruch’s goal effectively.
For instance, in the 35th minute Jevtic sent the ball to Robak, who stayed behind Ruch’s defensive line, and the forward was left with the goalkeeper alone. However, Hrdlicka predicted the outcome of the situation and stopped the forward in time. 6 minutes later the keeper had to intervene again when Robak attempted to place the ball in the net once more. Less than a minute later the goalkeeper failed to stop the ball from falling into the back of the net. Kostevych crossed the ball into the box from the left flank and Gajos sent it flying into the net with a beautiful, strong shot.
The second half looked slightly different. Bjelica’s players were determined to score the third goal. Often Lech’s players tried shooting from outside the box, but they also found it easy to run into Ruch’s penalty area. Even though the guests defended with 11 footballers, the team from Poznan managed to put their defensive line apart and cause problems to the Slovenian goalkeeper.
In the 62nd minute Lech finally succeeded and scored another goal. Majewski recovered the ball on his own half of the pitch, dribbled past two players and passed to Jevtic, who was running into the box. The latter beat the goalkeeper with a shot just below the crossbar. Shortly afterward Majewski was replaced by Radut. Bjelica also decided to send Makuszewski in to bring fresh energy to the midfield.
In the 77th minute Makuszewski played a key role in one of Lech’s offensive actions. This time the hosts led a counterattack; Bille recovered the ball and left it for Makuszewski. The winger could have passed to Jevtic, but instead, he decided to finish the action individually which ended poorly. Bille also had a significant influence on the hosts’ team. He was very active, easily found empty space to run into and brought a lot of freshness to the team. In the 88th minute the Dane sent the ball to Kedziora who passed it on to Makuszewski. The winger called for a foul, but the referee ignored the protests and let the footballers continue playing. He ended the game a couple of minutes later and Lech added 3 points to their account, finishing the main phase of the season on the third rank.
