Niels Frederiksen’s players have extended the winning streak. After defeating Górnik Zabrze last weekend, this Sunday the team from Poznań won 2:0 against Pogoń Szczecin. Afonso Sousa and Ali Gholizadeh scored the goals for Lech.
Frederiksen’s squad began the match very well – they controlled the game since the first whistle. Mikael Ishak and Afonso Sousa got good goal-scoring opportunities, but Pogoń's keeper Valentin Cojocaru intervened confidently. Gradually, Lech’s domination on the pitch increased and Pogoń was left helpless. Joel Pereira came close to scoring but his attempt was blocked by Leo Borges. Pogoń had just one chance to change the score in the first half but Bartosz Mrozek managed to stop Kamil Grosicki’s flat shot. Shortly before the referee announced halftime, Sousa was fouled by Benedikt Zech and, after seeing the replays, the ref gave Pogoń’s player a red card.
The second half looked very similar to the first 45 minutes – Lech stayed in control of the match and finally found a way to change the score. An impressive effort from Hakans and Sousa resulted in the latter adding another goal to his account. Frederiksen’s squad didn’t stop there and kept on looking for opportunities to solidify their advantage. 15 minutes before the final time, Gholizadeh raced into the box, dribbled past two defenders, and set the final score to 2:0 with a flat, precise shot which also happened to be his debut goal for Lech. Shortly before the referee finished the match, Bryan Fiabema also came close to scoring his first goal for the team from Poznań, but his shot was slightly off target. However, the 2:0 score was sufficient for Lech to jump to first place in the league table.
