Lech Poznań - Korona Kielce 3:2

The match at Bułgarska Street was dominated by the hosts who were in possession of the ball for the majority of the time, however, despite firing a dozen shots at their opponent’s goal, the score remained a goalless draw until the 41^st minute. That’s when Lech was awarded a penalty kick for a handball and captain Mikael Ishak converted the set piece into the opening goal of the night.

Lech improved the score early in the second half thanks to Joao Amaral whose precise shot from outside the box left the goalkeeper helpless. Just when it seemed that the hosts were in full control of the game, Korona started attacking more intensely and their efforts paid off as they received two penalty kicks and managed to convert them into goals. In both situations, referee Bartosz Frankowski used the aid of VAR to award the team from Kielce with a set piece.

Despite conceding two goals, Lech still held onto the ball and created goal-scoring opportunities, but it wasn’t until injury time that the hosts succeeded in taking the lead again. Alan Czerwiński crossed the ball into the box from the right flank and Filip Szymczak, who came in from the bench, was at the right time in the right place. His header sealed an important victory for John van den Brom’s squad.

On Saturday, Lech will play their last league game of the year. The away match against Jagiellonia Białystok is scheduled to kick off at 5:30 pm.
