Lech Poznan beat Korona Kielce 1:0 in the 9th league match of the season. Thanks to a goal from Lukasz Tralka, Lech will remain on the leader’s position in the table.
Both teams came on the pitch focused on the offensive. In the 12th minute Korona had the first scoring chance. Cvijanovic sent a pass along the goal and into the box where Gardawski was already waiting. However, Tralka managed to intercept the pass at the last moment. 3 minutes later Lech replied with a shot from Majewski, but his attempt was stopped by the keeper.
Lech, who’s aim for the match was to remain on the position of the leader, had the second opportunity to score in the 22nd minute when Majewski received a good pass from Makuszewski. The first ones redirected the ball into the box where Gytkjaer was waiting. However, the pass was stopped before the Dane could fire a shot. Not long after the score changed. The team from Poznan was awarded a corner kick. Alomerovic failed to intercept the pass and Tralka managed to redirect it into the back of the net with a header.
Even though Lech had more scoring chances, Korona caused problems to the hosts’ defensive line too. The team from Kielce was determined to equalize and waited for Lech to make mistakes in the defense. Before halftime Korona had one more chance to score. Kielb, who played as a striker during that match, sent a good cross into the box from the corner of the pitch. Kovacevic was well positioned and fired a dangerous shot, but luckily for Lech, it was off target.
Korona kept on pushing on Lech’s defensive line in the second half as well. In the 55th minute the guests could have equalized following a mistake from De Marco who fouled Gardawski in Lech’s box. Korona was awarded a penalty kick, but Putnocky managed to save Kielb’s shot and the hosts still remained in the lead. Nevertheless, Lech needed to remain cautious because Korona wasn’t going to give up and they performed really well that Friday night.
Mozdzen attempted to surprise Putnocky with a shot from outside the box, but the goalkeeper made no errors during that match. Meanwhile, Lech tried to push Korona further away from their own box and attempted to remain in possession of the ball for as long as possible. However, the hosts visibly struggled to find enough space to shoot at Korona’s goal. Jevtic came in on the pitch after 2 months of absence with an aim to bring some fresh energy and creativity to the team, but such as Bjelica said earlier before the match, the Swiss midfielder would need time to get back in shape.
In the 80th minute Jevtic had a good chance to change the score to 2:0. He received the ball from one of his teammates and decided for a shot from about 25 meters. The attempt flew centimeters above Korona’s crossbar. It was one of the few goal scoring opportunities Lech had in the second half. Bjelica’s team was determined to defend the score and guarded the goal throughout most of the game. Poznan fans couldn’t be sure of the score until the final whistle. Korona was in possession of the ball for the majority of the time, but luckily for Lech, they didn’t find a way to put the ball in the back of the net and, therefore, Lech collected 3 points at the end of the match.
