In the 26th round of Lotto Ekstraklasa, Lech Poznan lost a home clash with Gornik Zabrze 0:3.
The hosts were the first ones to fire a shot on Friday evening. An attempt from a corner kick was cleared by Gornik’s defenders, however, Gumny intercepted the ball and tried surprising the keeper but without success. A couple of minutes later, Lech got an opportunity to counterattack. Makuszewski raced down the right flank and fired a strong, precise shot from outside the box. Nonetheless, the keeper stopped the ball from falling into the net. Gornik responded with a counterattack that was effectively put to a halt by Gumny.
In the next offensive action, Buric was forced to intervene when Gvilla sent the ball flying in the direction of the goal. Makuszewski’s attempt on the other end of the pitch was less precise. The same player had another goal-scoring opportunity shortly afterwards, but his attempt to finish off a counterattack was unsuccessful since the keeper caught the ball effortlessly.
Lech attacked relentlessly, constantly searching for a goal. Amaral was one of the players who came close to scoring, but he also struggled to find the target, or the goalkeeper intervened impressively. 5 minutes before halftime, Gornik scored the first goal of the night. Jimenez received a precise pass, redirected the ball to Angulo with a heel pass, and the experienced striker placed it in the back of the net.
The hosts dominated the opening minutes of the second half but creating chances didn’t come easy to them. Occasionally, Gornik would counterattack but their shots were frequently off target. Angulo's attempt from inside the box was imprecise, whilst Jevtic’s shot from a couple of moments later was effectively blocked by the defensive line from Zabrze.
A few minutes later, Gornik got a perfect opportunity to add another goal to their account when Angulo came one-on-one with Lech’s keeper, but it was the latter who won the direct clash. However, the guests were more successful in their next offensive attempt. Gornik converted a corner kick into a cross that was extended by one of the players inside the box and redirected into the back of the net by Sekulic. Lech was visibly determined to catch up with their opponent, however, they didn’t have many scoring chances, and if they managed to build any, they were easily stopped by the defenders from Zabrze.
Makuszewski, Gumny, and Zhamaletdinov led one of the counterattacks which, although impressive and enjoyable to watch, was finished off with a shot that flew way above the crossbar. Despite Lech’s efforts, it was Gornik that scored the next goal following a precise shot from Angulo. The hosts failed to alter the score, therefore they were forced to accept a 0:3 loss.
