Lech Poznan beat Gornik Konin 8:1 in a pre-season sparing match. Jozwiak, Moder, Gytkjaer, Kurminowski, Robak (twice) and Rakels (twice) scored the goals for the team from Poznan
Lech dominated the match since the opening minutes, causing problems to Gornik’s defensive line with its active wings. The defenders from Poznan cooperated really well with the midfielders on both flanks. In the 18th minute the successful team play resulted in a goal. Moder crossed the ball into the box from the left flank where Jozwiak was already waiting. The youngster wanted to pass the ball to one of his teammates, but instead he redirected it into the back of the net.
In the 26th minute Gytkjaer had a good chance to score when he was left one-on-one with the goalkeeper. However, the Dane’s shot was saved by the keeper. A moment later Jevtic attempted to surprise Gornik with a shot from outside the box, but again the goalkeeper intervened successfully. Lech was awarded a corner kick which Moder converted into a goal with a strong, precise shot from the 30th meter.
The closing minutes of the first half were no less exhilarating. 10 minutes after scoring the second goal, Lech beat Gornik’s defensive line again. This time Jozwiak crossed the ball into the box and Gytkjaer placed it in the back of the net. The Dane added an assist to his account shortly afterward when he sent a well-timed pass to Rakels, who passed the goalkeeper and scored the fourth goal. Before the referee whistled halftime, Serafin fouled one of Gornik’s players in Lech’s box and the guests were awarded a penalty kick that Adamczewski converted into a goal.
The second half didn’t differ from the first part of the match. Lech was in possession of the ball for the majority of the time. Gytkjaer was one of the most active players on the pitch, creating numerous goal-scoring chances for himself and his teammates. Gornik was lucky since a lot of Lech’s attempts missed the goal by centimeters. For instance, in the 59th minute Jevtic’s cross into the box nearly rolled into the back of Gornik’s net.
Formella and Kurminowski made a good impression, having come on the pitch after an hour of play. Both players were often seen with the ball by their feet, especially Formella. Moder and Wasilewski had good chances to score, but their attempts were either blocked, or successfully stopped by Gornik’s keeper. Nonetheless, Lech finally managed to add the fifth goal to their account. This time Jevtic sent a cross into the penalty area where Robak was already waiting and converted the pass into a goal.
In the 71st minute Moder decided for an individual run. The midfielder recovered the ball, dribbled past 3 defenders, but before he could pass the ball to one of his teammates, he was blocked. 2 minutes later the score changed to 6:1. Robak was left unmarked in the box and he beat the goalkeeper with a strong shot into the back of the net. That wasn’t the last goal.
