In the third sparring match in Turkey, Lech Poznań faced FK Rad. The Polish team yet again managed to keep a clean sheet, but failed to score, hence the match ended with a goalless score.
Lech Poznań had two training games scheduled for Thursday, hence the coaching staff decided to divide the squad into two groups. Therefore, it was the first day that the whole team didn’t spend together.
The starting line-up for the clash with FK Rad was mostly composed of young players for whom the training camp was a debut and a few more experienced footballers such as Filip Bednarek, Thomas Rogne, Mohammad Awwad and Vasyl Kravets. At the top of the offence, coach Żuraw placed Filip Szymczak – the author of the two goals scored against Dynamo Moscow. However, it wasn’t the 18-year-old that first came close to scoring, but his younger teammate, Igor Ławrynowicz. The youngster replaced Karlo Muhar who suffered an injury during warmup and within the first few opening minutes fired two shots at the goal – one of which was off target and one was successfully stopped by FK Rad’s keeper.
The Belgrade team responded with an offensive attempt of their own which would have ended with a goal if it wasn’t for Filip Bednarek’s intervention. The goalkeeper managed to redirect the ball which then – luckily for Lech – bounced off the post and rolled away from the goal line. On the other end of the pitch, Mohammed Awwad caused problems to Stojan Leković with a strong shot on target from outside the box. A couple of minutes later, Lech’s goalkeeper was forced to intervene again but this time following Dusan Karaklajić’s shot from a close distance and Nikola Mladenović’s good attempt. Towards the end of the first half, the Polish team managed to create another good goal-scoring opportunity but Filip Szymczak’s shot was slightly off target.
In the second half, Lech Poznań continued putting pressure on FK Rad’s defensive line and it didn’t take them long to come close to scoring again but this time Awwad’s attempt wasn't as precise. Not long after Szymczak had a chance to add another goal to his statistics but he failed to beat the goalkeeper. In the meantime, on the other end of the pitch, Krzysztof Bąkowski who was sent in to replaced Bednarek intervened successfully as FK Rad became more active in the offence. However, the team from Belgrade couldn’t find a way to break down Lech’s defensive line. Despite clear fatigue, the team from Poznań tried staying in possession of the ball for as long as possible and controlling the game. The only thing that they failed to achieve on Thursday afternoon is to score a goal, hence the match ended in a goalless draw.
