In the 11th round of PKO Ekstraklasa, Lech Poznan beat Wisla Cracow at home. The match ended with a 4:0 win for the hosts following goals from Jevtic, Gytkjaer, Jozwiak, and Marchwinski.
The first half didn’t forecast the score that would be displayed on the screens in the 90th minute. Lech had a few scoring chances with Jozwiak and Gytkjaer playing key roles in the offense, however, Wisla also caused some problems to the hosts’ defensive line. The first 45 minutes were rather slow and unimpressive until finally, a few minutes before halftime, Lech placed the ball in the back of the net. Jozwiak recovered the ball with a sliding tackle and passed to Jevtic who found some free space and beat the keeper with a confident shot. Moder could have added another goal to Lech’s account in the closing minutes of the first half but his impressive offensive attempt was blocked just in time by Wisla’s defenders.
The second half was undoubtedly more exhilarating. Shortly after the referee initiated the second part of the match, Kaminski and Moder built an attack from scratch. The latter finished off the attempt with an accurate shot, but the goalkeeper intervened effortlessly. Clearly the hosts had numerous opportunities to change the score but they lacked precision in the final phase… until the 73rd minute when Kaminski’s shot was redirected away from the goal by the keeper and Gytkjaer, who was in the right place at the right time, tapped the ball into the net. It didn’t take long before Lech was up by 3 goals. This time it was Jozwiak who finished off a counterattack with a beautiful, precise shot into the corner of the goal. The hosts didn’t seem overly satisfied with such a confident lead, hence they kept on looking for more scoring chances. Wisla’s defensive error gave Lech a perfect opportunity to set the score to 4:0 and Marchwinski – who came on in the second half – did just that. The youngster dribbled past one of Wisla’s most experienced defenders and placed the ball in the net with a flat shot. The score remained unaltered until the final whistle, therefore Lech finally put an end to a poor run of matches without a win and could celebrate a great score ahead of the international break.
