Lech lost the 4th league match of the season. The team from Poznan was beaten at home 3:1 by Slask Wroclaw. It was Lech’s first loss in this campaign.
The fans could expect an exhilarating match considering that both teams were ranked in the top 3 of the PKO Ekstraklasa table. Nonetheless, an attendance of 32 000 was a positive surprise to everyone. The home supporters observed great few opening minutes from their team, however, in the 5th minute, a defensive error cost Lech a goal. Referee Marciniak awarded Slask with a penalty kick following Rogne’s handball. Pich easily converted the chance into a goal. Despite being in a tough situation, Lech quickly recovered and started attacking, gradually gaining full control of the game. It didn’t take long for the hosts to equalize. Jevtic raced down the left flank, rushed into the box, and fired a flat, precise shot that surprised the keeper.
Just when it seemed that the two teams were back at square one, Slask scored again. Broz was left with plenty of free space hence without much hesitation, he tried surprising Lech’s keeper with a shot from outside the box. The odd parabola of the shot left van der Hart helpless as the ball flew into the net. The hosts got back to work but unluckily for them, within the next 10 minutes, the team from Wroclaw changed the score to 1:3. Maczynski sent a long ball into the box and Broz converted the shot into a beautiful header. Zuraw’s squad was visibly determined to pull one goal back before halftime but Slask successfully kept on stopping their offensive attempts. Tiba came close to scoring but his shot was saved by Putnocky.
Before the second half began, the fans already knew what they could expect from the following 45 minutes – a tsunami of offensive attempts from their team. Lech had numerous chances throughout the second part of the game. Gytkjaer had a great opportunity to score but his shot was too weak to cause any problems to Slask’s keeper. The hosts kept Putnocky very busy but the goalkeeper seemed to be at his absolute best and didn’t let a single ball past him. Jozwiak, Tiba, and Gytkjaer all tried beating the keeper but none of them succeeded, therefore Lech was defeated for the first time this season and Slask was the one to collect all three league points.
