Lech has been eliminated from the fight for the Fortuna Polish Cup trophy. The team from Poznań was beaten by Raków Częstochowa 0:2 in the quarterfinals of the competition.
Following two league wins in a row – against Śląsk Wrocław (1:0) and Warta Poznań (2:1) – the fans were hopeful that Lech was finally back on track and that their team is going to deliver another good performance and advance to the semifinals of the Fortuna Polish Cup. Unfortunately for the Lech supporters, hope is all it was.
The first half of the match held at Bułgarska street saw no goals but if anyone seemed closer to scoring, it was Raków. The team from Częstochowa actively searched for ways to break down Lech’s defensive line and occasionally tried surprising Filip Bednarek with a dangerous shot. However, the goalkeeper intervened without and error.
After halftime, the situation changed as Raków’s players became more precise in their attempts. First, in the 70th minute, Andrzej Niewulis beat Bednarek with a header, and 8 minutes later Vladislavs Gutkovskis took advantage of Thomas Rogne’s mistake and set the final score to 2:0. The hosts failed to make use of the remaining 10 minutes of play and turn the tables, hence it was Raków that advanced to the semifinals of Fortuna Polish Cup.
