Lech players failed to extend the series of league wins. On Sunday afternoon, the squad from Poznań drew 0:0 in a home clash with Piast Gliwice.
Ever since the first whistle, Lech dominated the game but visibly struggled to convert that dominance into goal-scoring opportunities. “In the first half, we were careless, failed to stay in possession of the ball for long periods, and couldn’t create decent chances to score from within Piast’s penalty area,” commented Mickey van der Hart shortly after the final time. The Dutch keeper not only managed to keep another clean sheet but also saved his team from conceding a few goals on Sunday afternoon.
However, it was Piast’s goalkeeper that earned the title of Man of the Match. In the second half, Frantisek Plach made a couple of crucial interventions and his parades were some of the most spectacular that the Polish fans have witnessed this season. Especially the way he stopped Dani Ramirez’s attempt – first redirecting the ball onto the post and then clearing the threat to corner kick – was worth acknowledgement.
Plach’s brilliant interventions stopped Jakub Kamiński’s three good attempts, as well as Mikael Ishak’s shot from a close distance, hence when the referee announced final time, Lech and Piast had to share league points.
Lech: van der Hart - A. Czerwiński, Salamon, Rogne, Kamiński - Skóraś (84. Palacz), Tiba, Karlström (84. Kvekveskiri), Ramirez (84. Kozubal), Sykora (63. Kravets) - Ishak (74. Szymczak).
Piast: Plach - Konczkowski, Huk, J. Czerwiński, Holubek - Pyrka (61. Milewski), Lipski (89. Badia), Sokołowski, Chrapek (69. Jodłowiec), Vida (61. Steczyk) - Żyro.
