In the 15th league match of the season, Lech Poznan drew 0:0 with Korona Kielce at home. Following the tie, the team from Greater Poland is currently ranked 9th in PKO Ekstraklasa table.
On Sunday, thousands of students came to see Lech play against Korona. The cyclical initiative ‘Kibicuj z klasa’ (‘Support with class’) enables groups of children and youth to attend the matches for free. In total, 11,000 students sat in the stands and watched an exhilarating game which was, unfortunately, lacking goals.
Lech could have taken the lead early, in the 10th minute, when Jozwiak and Tiba put apart Korona’s defensive line. The Portuguese came one-on-one with the keeper, but his shot was easily stopped by Koziol. A couple of minutes later, the goalkeeper had to stop Gytkjaer’s header and he succeeded once again. Jozwiak had a great opportunity to score a goal as well after he received a precise long ball from Jevtic, but this time his shot was off target. Shortly before the referee announced halftime, the Swiss midfielder got an equally good pass from his younger teammate, however, his attempt was successfully blocked by one of Korona’s defenders.
In the second half, the team from Kielce was more active in the offense. Van der Hart was forced to intervene a couple of times, however, it was Lech that kept on dominating the match. In fact, the hosts even managed to score a goal, but the fans’ explosive happiness was short-lived since VAR ruled the goal as incorrect – it turned out that before the ball hit the back of the net, it touched Rogne’s hand. Nonetheless, Lech remained in control of the game despite struggling to create as many goal-scoring opportunities as in the first half. In the closing minutes of the match, Gumny could have won 3 points for his team, but his shot was too easy to cause problems to Korona’s keeper. Tomczyk failed to score in the added time too, which meant that the two sides had to share points when the referee ended the game. The next time the team from Poznan appears on the league pitches will be after the international break against the current Polish Champions – Piast Gliwice.
