Lech’s Saturday clash with Jagiellonia was a perfect celebration of the club’s 100th anniversary as Skorża’s squad beat their opponent from Białystok 3:0.
The Saturday league game at Bułgarska street had a very special atmosphere – it was the club’s 100th birthday hence the 40-thousand crowd gathered at Lech’s home ground had multiple attractions prepared for them prior, during, and after the game. But more importantly, the full stands were expecting an exhilarating spectacle from Lech’s players.
The uniqueness of the match along with the record-breaking attendance put additional pressure on Skorża’s squad which affected their performance in the first half. The hosts did not play well as they struggled to create good goal-scoring opportunities despite dominating on the pitch. After 45 minutes, it was still nil-nil since Jagiellonia didn’t have an idea how to beat their opponent’s defensive line either.
In the second half, the fans gathered at Bułgarska street saw a completely different team. As soon as the referee resumed the match, the hosts started putting pressure on Jagiellonia’s defense and within minutes, they found the back of the net. The two Swedish players – Jesper Karlstrom and Mikael Ishak – gave no chance to the opponent and together they dismantled Jagiellonia’s defensive line.
Ishak’s precise volley was a turning point for the team from Poznań and within 6 minutes later it was already 2:0. This time Jakub Kamiński crossed the ball into the box and Joao Amaral, who came in during halftime, redirected the ball into the net with a slide-tackle.
The Portuguese midfielder also played a key role in Lech’s third goal – it was his pass that set up Dawid Kownacki and Lech’s homegrown player effortlessly changed the score to 3:0.
Despite the win, Lech remains third in the league table – with the same number of points as Raków Częstochowa and one point less than Pogoń Szczecin. The next league match is scheduled for April 1st (8:30 pm) when Lech will face Śląsk Wrocław in an away game.
