Lech met the expectations and confidently beat Górnik Łęczna 3:0. However, just two hours later, Raków defeated Pogoń Szczecin 2:1 and, therefore, despite collecting three league points, the team from Poznań was relegated to the second position in the table.
Górnik Łęczna have already accepted their faith of relegation whereas Lech is still fighting for the championship title, hence it was obvious which team is the favourite in this clash. And from the very first whistle, the match looked just like everyone expected it to – Lech played football whilst Górnik tried making their opponent’s life difficult.
But the hosts’ attempts to stop Lech’s offense were unsuccessful and by the time the referee announced halftime, it was 3:0 for Skorża’s squad. In the 4th minute, Joao Amaral opened the scoring sheet, and then in the 26th minute, Jesper Karlstorm (for whom it was a debut goal) changed the score to 2:0. Finally, just before the break, Mikael Ishak set the final score to 3:0 with his 15th goal of the season.
In the second half, coach Skorża let his key players get some rest. Kamiński and Rebocho were replaced by Skóraś and Douglas. Later on, Lech’s coach also took off Pereira, Amaral, and Ishak. However, despite those major changes, the second half looked very much like the first part of the match – Lech attacked and Górnik defended. The only difference was that Lech’s efficiency in the second half was much worse meaning they failed to find the back of the net again.
Unfortunately, a comfortable win wasn’t enough to hold onto the leader’s position. Raków Częstochowa triumphed in the clash with Pogoń Szczecin (2:1) which enable them to surpass Lech in the league table.
In the upcoming league round, Lech is going to face Stal Mielec at home. The match is scheduled for Sunday, at 12:30 pm.
