Lech Poznań beat FK Valmiera 3:0 at home and advanced to the second round of Europa League qualifiers.
Lech dominated the game and won comfortably, however, the hosts scored all three goals in the second half as their opponent – a debutant in Europa League competition – defended very efficiently for the first 45 minutes. Valmiera’s coach had his team focus on the defence and Lech struggled to find a way to take down the wall that their rival placed in front of their penalty area.
Only after an hour did the team from Poznań finally manage to beat Valmiera’s defensive line. First, Jakub Moder tried surprising the Latvian keeper, however, his shot stopped on the post. Luckily for the hosts, Mikael Ishak was in the right place at the right time and his follow-up shot flew into the back of the net. Less than 20 minutes later, it was already 2:0. The Swede added another goal to his account, this time following a great pass from Pedro Tiba. Lech’s 18-year-old homegrown striker, Filip Szymczak, set the final score to 3:0 with a strong and precise shot with his left foot.
The team from Poznań advanced to the second round of Europa League qualifiers. On Monday, the draw will take place and Lech’s rival will be announced.
