Before the season had ended, Lech had already began to transfer new players. Maciej Wilusz, Muhamed Keita and Darko Jevtić are the most recent reinforcements of the team.
WILUSZ
The first player to represent Lechs colors since the beginning of the upcoming season is Maciej Wilusz. The 25 year-old center back came from the first league GKS Bełchatów as a free transfer. He signed a 3-year contract with the club from Poznań.
Weve been observing Wilusz for a long time now. It has to be emphasized that hes a professional in every aspect. Hes an intelligent player. I am sure Maciej will fit our style. I hope that hell bring tranquility, commitment and confidence to the defense of Lech, said the coach, Mariusz Rumak.
Wilusz is a homegrown player of Śląsk Wrocław. At the age of 17 he decided to move to Holland. However, he did not manage to get into the first team of SC Heerenveen nor Sparta Rotterdam. Wilusz returned to Poland in summer 2010 and for a year and a half he represented the former first league MKS Kluczbork.
Maciej has been our no. 1 on the list of defenders we wanted to transfer. He been an interest for us since the moment he returned back to Poland from Sparta. Its another representative of Poland in our squad and a valuable player to strengthen our defense, said Lechs vice-president, Piotr Rutkowski.
Since 2012 Wilusz has been a player of GKS Bełchatów. On February 17 he debuted in Ekstraklasa against Lech Poznań, with which his team won 1:0. The national teams coach Adam Nawałka has paid attention to the defender. Wilusz has played for Poland 4 times.
I want to keep on progressing and the transfer to Lech has been a huge step. Its a great club who is eager to fight for prestigious trophies and I hope that together we will win a lot of them. I have been to Poznań both as a player, and as a fan, and I have experienced the amazing atmosphere. Thats why I am very happy to be here, said the new player of Lech.
KEITA
After Maciej Wilusz, Muhamed Keita was the next player that moved to Lech. The Gambian with a Norwegian passport signed a 3-year contract.
Keita was born on September 2nd 1990 in Banjul (the capital of Gambia). When he was 6, he moved to the Norwegian Drammen together with his family. At the age of 16 he became a player of Stromsgodset and he has represented the clubs colors up till this summer.
In 2013 Keita and his teammates won the Championship of Norway. In the triumphant season he played 19 games, scored 3 goals and assisted 4 times. In the current season (in Norway the league system is spring-autumn) Muhamed appeared on the field 6 times. Altogether, he spent on the field 307 minutes.
Weve been paying close attention to Muhamed since the beginning of 2013. Every transfer window weve taken under consideration his move and I am glad that we have finally found an agreement with the Norwegian club. Keita still has to practice his accuracy but I believe Lech will be a perfect place to progress, said the clubs vice-president, Piotr Rutkowski.
Keita plays with both legs, the right being his better one. Usually he appears on the left wing. However, he can also play both on the right side, and behind the forward. Lechs fans saw Keita for the first time during the ceremony on the Old Market Square. Muhamed came to Poznań with his family who shares his passion. The Gambian has a 16 year-old brother that also plays football. Saidou Keita represents FK Drammen.
JEVTIĆ
The most recent transfer of Lech is Darko Jevtić, a 21 year-old offensive midfielder of FC Basel 1893. The footballer came to Poznań on a year-long loan. The agreement between the club will be finalized when Jevtić passes all the medical tests.
Darko Jevtić spent the last season on a loan in the Austrian FC Wacker Innsbruck. He played 19 games, scored 3 goals and assisted twice. Hes a very creative player with a great technique, says Piotr Rutkowski. The unconventional passing and a great left foot are his trademarks.
The player arrived in Poznań on Monday and undertook the medical tests. Lech will sign the deal with the Champion of Switzerland if the results will be positive. There is no preemption clause in the contract but the player is bound to Basel only until June 2015.
Darko is to help us achieve the goals weve set for the upcoming season. We want to win the Championship of Poland and go as far as possible in the European League. Thats why we decided to bring Jevtić, said the vice-president of the club. FC Basel can transfer the player back to Switzerland in January 2015.
