The Sunday league clash with Legia Warsaw was marked not only by a brilliant win, but also by Kownacki’s official farewell ceremony. At halftime, over 36 thousand people gathered at INEA Stadium had an opportunity to thank the homegrown player for the 11 years spent in Poznan.
Kownacki played in 117 matches for Lech’s senior team. During the match against Legia Warsaw the homegrown player was given a commemorative match shirt that he used to wear until this season. Shortly afterwards the fans gathered at the stadium chanted the player’s name a couple of times. It was Kownacki’s first visit to INEA Stadium following his summer transfer to Sampdoria Genua. The 20-year-old walked around the pitch and thanked the fans for all the support he received over the years.
Karol Klimczak, Lech’s chairman, was clearly happy to see Kownacki at INEA Stadium. “It means a lot to us to be able to say goodbye and a big thank you to Kownacki. It was an important moment not only for us but also for Dawid and the supporters. We haven’t had the chance to prepare an official farewell and wish Dawid all the best,” explained Klimczak. “Jan Bednarek and Karol Linetty attended the game too. We are thrilled to see our homegrown players supporting Lech from the stands whenever the can,” added the chairman.
We wish Dawid the best of luck in his future career and we thank him for all the brilliant years he spent at the club! See you on the pitch someday!
