Lech Poznań signed the fifth new contract of summer 2024. On Tuesday, Filip Jagiełło officially joined Niels Frederiksen’s squad on a permanent transfer from Genoa CFC. The 27-year-old's deal will last until 2027, with the option of extension for another 12 months.
Jagiełło arrived to the capital of Greater Poland on Sunday evening and began the standard medical tests the following day. Since he was deemed healthy and fit, on Tuesday the midfielder proceeded to sign a three-year contract with Lech Poznań. The agreement includes the option of extension for another year.
“Filip is a player with plenty of national and, more importantly, international experience. He is a midfielder who is meant to reinforce the internal rivalry. He has very good control of the ball, he is capable of pushing the offensive attempts, and is skilled at finding a position in the opponent’s box. In addition, he has a good and strong shot and a precise pass into the penalty area, hence we are counting on his goals and assists,” explained Tomasz Rząsa, Lech’s Sporting Director.
Jagiełło is Zagłębie Lubin’s homegrown player, but he is joining Lech on a permanent transfer form Genoa CFC – an Italian side for which he has been playing since 2019. The 27-year-old moved to Italy 5 years ago and apart from competing for Genoa CFC, he also spent time on loan at Brescia Calcio and Specia Calcio.
Overall, Jagiełło made 13 appearances on the Serie A pitches during which he got 2 assists. In addition, the midfielder played in 6 Italian Cup games (1 assist) and 109 matches in Serie B (14 goals, 10 assists). Now the Pole has returned to Poland and is saying that he is eager to help his new squad fight for trophies from his very first game.
"After the last year, when I lost the match rhythm, a return to Poland is the right step. Lech is providing me with the chance to fight for top trophies and I am ambitious. I think that I am at an ideal age to still achieve something. I hope for myself and for the fans that we will celebrate titles together in Poznań,” said Lech’s latest signing.
Jagiełło will play for Lech with numer 24 on his shirt.
