Improvement in set pieces

The 2019/20 season was rich in beautiful goals. Although a majority of them was a result of team play and counterattacks, set pieces also played an important role, especially in the last phase of the season thanks to Moder’s and Ramirez’s impressive goals, among other. At the beginning of the recent campaign, the team from Poznań also attracted attention with their creative methods of executing set pieces.

The improvement is evident even if we don’t consider penalty kicks – an aspect that Lech made significant progress in. What’s worth noticing is the increased conversion rate of free kicks which undoubtedly the fans are thrilled about. Here the credit goes to Moder and Ramirez who have scored memorable goals from free kicks this past season.

“We train various variants. We put them into practice and with very good executioners such as ours and the team’s overall quality, we score goals,” explained Kamiński. His teammate Moder added, “We spent a lot of time training set pieces and the results are now visible.”

In addition, the number of players who found the back of the net following set pieces also increased – in total, there were 10 of them, whereas in the previous season only 6. Interestingly, 3 of the goals from set pieces this past campaign were scored by defensive players.
