On Friday night, Lech Poznan is going to face Wisla Cracow at Bulgarska street. For the first time in his career, Jevtic will take over the role of the team captain in a home clash.
During the second pre-season camp in Opalenica, the team chose Jevtic to be their new captain. The Swiss player is the most experienced member of the senior team. “I always want to take the responsibility and I think that makes me a leader. I have been stepping up on and off the pitch constantly, whether I had the captain armband or not. I like the responsibility; I like carrying it on the pitch,” explained Jevtic.
The first league game of the season – against Piast Gliwice – ended with a draw. The team from Poznan dominated in the second half and scored a late equalizer thanks to Tomczyk. However, Jevtic emphasizes that it’s important to look ahead, not behind.
“We are dissatisfied with the most recent match, however, we ought to respect the result. We fought until the end, we were very determined to win the match - especially after scoring a late equalizer - but we failed to do so. We came back from Gliwice with one point and we are now hoping that after the next match, we will have three more on our account,” highlighted Lech’s captain.
The average age of Lech’s senior squad is relatively low – a statistic that arouses a lot of surprise and admiration. The number of youth players in Zuraw’s team enables the coach to form a starting line-up made up of homegrown footballers only. “We have strong candidates to play on the wings – Jozwiak, Makuszewski, Klups, and Puchacz are only some of them. Most of those players are youngsters but they still bring a lot of quality to the team - something you can see in every single training session and match. The wings cannot be called weakness of ours; we have only played a single game, therefore we need to give the youngsters a bit more time to get into the rhythm. I am sure that as the season goes on, they will impress people with their performances,” added Jevtic.
